MANUFACTURING
Zambia’s current base in the manufacturing sector comprises companies in food processing and beverages, textiles, leisure and sporting equipment. The main activities include the smelting and refining of copper and other metals and metal products, petroleum refining, the production of fertilisers, chemicals, explosives, cement, tobacco products and textiles.

However, the country offers viable opportunities in every subsector of manufacturing, with a sufficiently developed infrastructure that enables manufacturers to profit from their investment. Generous incentives also exist and government fully supports most non-traditional manufacturing enterprises.

Zambia’s vast wealth of mineral resources presents an inviting and rich array of opportunities for potential investors. With efforts aimed at reducing dependence on raw copper, the opportunities created by government have led to a rapid growth in the non-traditional exports leading to a diversification of the economy. The target markets for such exports include the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), Europe, the Far East and Asia.

Vital statutory bodies overseeing the manufacturing and export sectors in the country include the Export Board of Zambia, the Competition Commission, the Bureau of Standards and the Small Enterprises Development Board.
